Strategic Sourcing Classroom Training
Background:
The company was first established on May 16, 1969 as Siam City Cement Company Limited and began cement production after the completion of its cement plant in 1972. In 1981, the company’s Saraburi plant endeavoured to replace the imported bunker oil used as fuel in cement production to domestically sourced lignite coal. In order to reduce the consumption of fuel which represented a major cost of cement production, in 1989 the company became the first cement producer in Southeast Asia to introduce a waste heat recovery system which converted heat captured from the cement kiln to produce electricity. In 1993, the company was officially renamed “Siam City Cement Public Company Limited” to reflect the nature of its being a fully listed company in Thailand’s stock exchange.
Challenge:
Siam City Cement sought a training provider to support their current practice of strategic sourcing. The company had previously taken an assessment and received internal training from ADR competitors. Certification was not a client priority, and the ideal delivery for training was 2 days.
Project:
To ensure that the solution provided to Siam addressed their need in the given timeframe of 2 days, we customized a 2-day training program that covers the first module of the Certified Strategic Sourcing Professional (CSSP) Program (Essentials of Strategic Sourcing) as well as more detail on the Supplier Relationship Management topic. ADR’s Skills Assessment Tool (DNA) and ADR’s eLearning modules were used to augment the customized 2-day training.
Outcome:
- 2-day customized Strategic Sourcing training, attended by Procurement and end-users.
- Training feedback was highly positive, with most looking forward to next trainings.
- Company CPO looks forward to the new initiatives .
- Company Procurement Advisor interested in what next steps will be proposed. DNA and OSCA were reiterated.
